There is no such thing as good or bad singing, only more free or less free.

This could be a great match for you if:

  • You are curious about working with me, and want a little taste of it before diving deeper with the more expansive Vocal Freedom Workshop.

  • You yearn to feel more free when singing.

  • You have formal singing training but sometimes feel disconnected from your heart and body when you sing with those formal tools.

  • You don’t have formal singing training but love to sing and would like to feel more free and connected to your heart and body when you sing.

  • You are transgender and are exploring new ways of singing and honoring your voice (with or without HRT) that feel like home to you.

  • You have have been told that you “can’t sing” and/or have experienced trauma connected to your voice, and you are looking for a gentle, trauma-informed way to ease back into singing.

  • You are longing for singing contexts that don’t rely on gendered expectations of voices or ideas of what anybody’s voice “should” sound like.

About the Facilitator:

Orion Johnstone

My name is Orion (they/he), and I am a non-binary transgender faggot witch and community minister. I have been singing on stages for over thirty years but I really found my voice when singing with others in the streets. I’ve taught private + group voice lessons for over 15 years, and everything I offer is dedicated to our collective healing and liberation and joy. Please see my Voice Coaching page (at www.orionjohnstone.com) for more info about my vocal philosophies and teaching approach and why this course matters so deeply to me.

Flow of Sessions:

You can do part or all of this, in any order, although I recommend going in order if you can.

  • Day 1: Intention Setting, Reflection on the story of you and your voice

  • Day 2: Group Voice Lesson centering on trusting the wisdom of your body

  • Day 3: Group Reflection, Guided Warmup, Mini Voice Lesson with 2 volunteers

  • Day 4: Group Reflection, Guided Warmup, Mini Voice Lesson with 2 volunteers

  • Day 5: Singing Together & Closing Reflections

Everyone who participates will leave more connected to their whole voice, to others who share similar questions/feels, and to further resources for going deeper.

Participation means consenting to be a part of the recording that will be shared with others, although you can choose when/if to turn on your video. No one will ever be put on the spot to speak or sing unless they explicitly volunteer.

This is offered freely as a gift.

If you wish to share a(n optional) donation, you can send any amount through Paypal to [email protected]
